Bridge to Brahms

On Wednesday, November 25 @ 4:00pm the West Tisbury Library will host a free recital featuring Scott Woolweaver on viola & Delores Stevens on piano. The recital, “Woolweaver and Stevens taking Bridge to Brahms,” is free and open to the public. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Martha’s Vineyard Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
pianist whose professional career has shined with many facets, Delores Stevens achieved early success by winning the coveted Coleman Chamber Music Competition in Pasadena California. She recently received the “Living Legacy Award” from the Young Musician’s Foundation in ceremonies at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. As a member of the acclaimed Montagnana Trio, she gave more than 500 concerts throughout Europe and North America. Delores Stevens has received many accolades for her inspired performances of contemporary music. She has recorded for 16 different record labels in all genres of music from Hindemith to Mozart, and her solo piano CD recording Pilgrimage is available on the Dominguez Digital label. Delores Stevens has served six terms as governor and trustee of the “Grammy” sponsor Recording Academy in Los Angeles and has been Director of the Chamber Music Program for the Young Musician’s Foundation for the last two decades. She has served as Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society Artistic Director since its inception 45 years ago.
Scott Woolweaver, viola, graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan School of Music where he won the Joseph Knitzer and Earl V. Moore awards for outstanding participation in chamber music. After moving to Boston for graduate studies with Walter Trampler, he founded the Boston Composers String Quartet, which won the silver medal at the 1003 String Quartet Competition and Chamber music Festa in Osaka, Japan. He was also a founding member of the Vaener String Trio, Grand Prize winners at the Joseph Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. From 1999-2006 he was a member of the Ives Quartet, based in San Francisco, CA, and for over 25 years he was a member of the New England Piano Quartette.
